Rusty old car: 1947 Buick
This is such a great shot of decaying beauty. There are lots of old cars just sitting around that back in the day were loved and looked after by proud families and owners. They were built so well - well really they were built like brick houses. You can see that the chrome headlight surrounds and mudguard strip are still in good nick and the rust is taking a long time to eat through the heavy metal.
Be great to bring a car like this back to life and be able to keep of the patina. Very cool.
Update: Thanks to Sam for letting me know what car this is.

A reader sent me an email the other day saying this wasn't a Chevy. Maybe a Buick or Pontiac. Here is the email:
ReplyDelete"That ain't a Chevy
Probably a Buick
Possibly a Pontiac
Chevys never had a chrome strip along the top of the front fenders
Looks post WWII 1946 to 52 when the General started single front screens
Think our first in NZ was 1954
See if anyone else know
Regards
Martin"
Can anyone else shed some light on this? If you click the link in the post it will take you to the other photos of it.
It's a 1947 Buick

On the rear end of the front fender you can see that seam which wasn't there in 1948, and in 1946 the fenders didn't cut down before the door, they kept going.
Thank you Sam. I will update the post. Like the image you have linked to. What a great car.
