Hillman Superminx Estate

When I was a teenager a mate of mine had a red and white Superminx Estate. A great car for loading up and going to the beach. It served him well for a very long time. In fact I think it lasted without any damage which was quite amazing with where it was taken.

I liked all the chrome and the simplicity of it. We could fix it if it stopped. You definitely couldn't do that with today's cars. I feel there is something great about fixing your car or even being able to change a tire or the oil. Getting your kids into a nice simple car instead of a death rocket will achieve several things;

1. They can't go fast enough to kill themselves. Yes I agree it might still happen but not at 200km/h.
2. They get to appreciate cars and treat them as luxury not as a right.
3. They can learn simple car maintenance that will help them be more hands on when they are older and pass the same to their kids.
4. They learn to handle a car better because they have to actually 'drive' it.

Datsun 1600 SSS

One of my favourite cars was my 1971 Datsun 1600 SS. It was built in September of 71, two months before I was born. Interesting I remember that fact.

I painted mine yellow, put some nice wheels on it, lowered it, redid the interior in black with Racepro seats, and then put a 13B tall port in it with a Weber 48IDA on a high rise manifold on it. If I ever find pics of my car I will put them up. With a locked diff and almost straight through exhaust it was noisy, loud, obnoxious and a lot of fun. I sold it before I got in too much trouble.

1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight

The Carrera RS is the only other Porsche I would like to own. And I will say it, it's the greatest Porsche ever made. This particular one is a rally version that won the first English rally win. Looks brilliant. See more pics here at clicks 1000's photostream.

1966 Toyota Corona RT-40

When I got my license at 15 this is almost the car I got given by my parents. Mine was a 1970 but I couldn't find a good image of one. The RT-40 was able to do the first Toyota to be publicly tested and sell over 10,000 units in the US.

I loved this car and when it got written off by an idiot crashing into the side of me 100 metres from home I was very upset. One day I am going to find another one and make the drive out to Piha like mine did many, many times without a hassle, 4 guys and 4 surfboards on the roof.

MAG Concept

I think this concept by Slovak designer Matúš Procháczka is fantastic. Imagine this floating down the road towards you running only on magnetisim. Called the MAG it was the Winner of the unseen technology award at the Interior motives design award 2007.
